Expressionist in nature, my work focuses on notions of impermanence and imperfection in all things.
There’s no literal narrative at work, instead, by unearthing and embracing subtle imperfections, the paintings become about flux: the evolution that results from the passage of time and the ever-changing nature of life.
Echoing the above, the Elementum series is inspired by the ‘sweet spots’ of other larger paintings: Specific areas of a piece distilled down into spontaneous elements of color and mark-making to become fully realized pieces in their own right.
This process originally began by taking large paintings on paper and cutting them up to create smaller compositions. This became a key dynamic in the finished work, as the modular nature of the pieces allows collectors freedom to become the curator, orienting the work in ways that feel right.
