ARTIST STATEMENT

My painting practice is a never-ending investigation of the natural world – on both micro and macro scales. In this pursuit, my studio has become more like a laboratory. I conduct experiments with paint, exploring its fluid and dynamic properties so as to express my fascination with the mysterious forces of nature – gravity, dispersion, viscosity separation, fluid dynamics and chemical reactions.

In this exhibition, “Absolutely Abstract”, I have included two paintings that were made on three dimensional surfaces. “R.A.D 1502” is painted on a vertical parabolic curved support and “Circumnavigation 1402” on a six sides plexiglass support (half of a dodecagon). I started painting on curvilinear surfaces in 2002 to create an even more dynamic shift in the pearlescent pigments and to explore the dynamic tension between the sculptural surface and the illusion of deep space in my paintings.
