Serena Stevens

My work is a combination of found and personal imagery. Following a rigorous process of collecting and organizing, I use paint and collage to create narratives. I am interested in print media’s portrayal of modern life and its influence on our perceptions, memories, and desires. Through manipulation of the visual intentions of magazines, advertising, and other entertainment, I create imagery that evokes nostalgic or latent feelings toward the idea of home, childlike innocence and sexuality. My process is my way of preserving and elevating my sources by shifting their ephemeral nature. My art serves as evidence of a former time, relating personal experience to a social and historical context.
