ARTIST STATEMENT
These paintings are generated through a wet-on-wet process in which watercolor, ink, and other liquid media are introduced, in various formulas and combinations, to a bed of glue. The physical components of each medium, as well as a myriad of variables – surface tension, temperature, and relative humidity, among others – combine in the moment to produce a unique expansion event on the wet surface, becoming a permanent record when it dries. With so many variables, it is at times difficult to predict with accuracy, even after rigorous testing, exactly what sort of reaction will transpire. The process takes on a life of its own and renders results both bewildering and profound in their complexity.
