SUMMARY:TRILOGY Exhibition Opening Gala & Public Reception
DESCRIPTION:YUCCA VALLEY\, CA — The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s new Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center (YVArts) will present the first of its new season and seventh large arts exhibition entitled TRILOGY\, opening with a special gala and free public reception Saturday evening\, September 7th from 6-9 pm.  The exhibition will feature three separate presentations of artworks: COLLUSION—FRIENDS OF EMS\, CONCOURSE C\, and DESERT DUDES. \nDESERT DUDES \nDESERT DUDES is a series of surreal portraits featuring the more notable musicians (Brant Bjork\, Josh Homme\, Mario Lalli) who created the Coachella Valley-based genre of music known as ‘Desert Rock.’  Often recording at the world-famous Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree\, CA\, DESERT DUDES is an artistic tribute to Desert Rock and to the musicians that made it happen.  Award-winning artist Patrick Hasson\, a California-based artist known for his surreal and hyper-colorful ‘Dripping’ style acrylic paintings\, was chosen by Executive Curator Michael McCall to exhibit his abstract series DESERT DUDES\, leading off the new season of exhibitions. \nCONCOURSE C  \nIn the spirit of community\, assemblage art\, and curio\, YVArts will present CONCOURSE C\, an assemblage shelter installation by Cathy Allen.  Viewed alongside will be selections from Karyl Newman’s WASTE WUNDERKAMMER collection of objects found lingering in the desert.  This project is part of the National Endowment for the Arts’ “Big Read” to promote STATION ELEVEN\, a book written by Emily St. John Mandel\, and its post pandemic genesis of an airport community.  The exhibition explores the repurposing of discarded waste into functional shelter and as an archive of human enterprise. \nCOLLUSION—FRIENDS OF EMS \nFamed photographer\, photojournalist\, and filmmaker\, Eric Minh Swenson (EMS)\, has assembled a group of contemporary artists and handed the list to YVArts curator\, Michael McCall to present the artists as FRIENDS OF EMS.  This is not a conspiracy but a broad look at contemporary artworks created for the purpose of expression and exhibition.  EMS selected over 20 artists of various disciplines as painting\, sculpture\, ceramics\, printmaking\, photography\, performance\, video\, and street art.  Swenson will also be represented by his film collaboration with artist Michael Skura. \nThe Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center is located at 58325 Highway 62 in Yucca Valley\, California\, 92284.  The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from 1-6 pm\, holidays excluded\, and there is no admittance fee.  All artworks in the TRILOGY exhibition will also be available for viewing and sale via its online gallery.  More information on the new exhibition and the brand new visual and performing arts center may be found online at YVArts.org. \nThe Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center is a program and annex of Hi-Desert Cultural Center\, a GuideStar “Gold Status” non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves as the regional visual and performing arts organization and arts agency for the communities of Joshua Tree National Park. \nPHOTO CAPTION: David B.
